You know how scam emails intentionally include mistakes because they want to filter out smart people? Same idea.
Reasonably smart people will see this and go “this is garbage”. The idiots will go deeper, and become loyal gop voters.

Did anything even happen to the cop that shot that journalist? Seems like everyone just accepted this instead of bringing charges or vigilanteism
I think this is one of those pearl clutching communities. Borderline collaboration, but it’s their power to enforce their rules.
Oh I read something interesting about that once. I think it came at it as big city vs urban modes of thought.
Someone who lives in a big city surrounded by many people realizes quickly you need robust systems. You just don’t have the time to handle every case as a unique circumstance. So you have laws and regulations to shift things earlier in the process when they’re easier to deal with (eg: fire codes before the building gets built, instead of no codes and a fire hazard)
The other mode doesn’t think like that. They can have simple laws on the books, and if there’s a problem they’ll just go talk it out with Brian the sheriff. Sure abortion is bad but you know little Suzie she just made a mistake, you can make an exception for her, right?
Obviously the “treat every case as special and rely on informal social connections” doesn’t scale or consistently deliver fair, just, outcomes. But according to some half remembered post I read, that’s how some right wing people view the world. You can have draconian laws, but the people enforcing them know when to apply them (against those assholes) and when not (for good folks who made a mistake)
So, I guess, corruption.
Single use plastic should he illegal for most things. Yes, it might be inconvenient to have to carry your own thermos or whatever, but filling the ocean with plastic is worse than inconvenient
It’s too bad there’s not going to be a prize when bluesky enshittifies, other than being able to say “I told you so”
He was a pretty smart guy, so I’m pretty sure he understood the ramifications. This isn’t like a plumber working in a building that happens to house an evil company. This was directly working as a high ranking software developer at a shitty software company.
I’ve thought about that. But that seems like a terrible strategy, because it lets the Republicans do anything. The Republicans do a bad thing, or accuse you of doing a bad thing, and now you’re incapable of responding to it?
Palantir is pretty awful. I knew a guy who took a job there, a bunch of years ago. When he said where he was going, I asked “But what if they work on something really shitty? Like spying on people?”. He was like, “Meh”, with a big shrug.
He was friendly and kind to the people around him, but I guess he just didn’t care about anyone he didn’t know personally right now.
I feel like most of my friends follow the news, but I bet you’re right that most people are just in a haze of screaming cucumbers.
I believe so. Otherwise you’re testing memory as well, which would make the results very confounded.
I can’t find the one I did, but https://www.varsitytutors.com/6th_grade_reading-comprehension-problem-440865 seems free.
https://www.k12reader.com/subject/reading-skills/reading-comprehension/6th-grade-reading-comprehension/ also came up.
I’ve already posted this a few times, but Ed Zitron wrote a long article about what he calls “Business Idiots”. Basically, people in decision making positions who are out of touch with their users and their products. They make bad decisions, and that’s a big factor in why everything kind of sucks now.

I think a lot of us have this illusion that higher ranking people are smarter, more visionary, or whatever. But I think no. I think a lot of people are just kind of stupid, surrounded by other stupid people, cushioned from real, personal, consequences. On top of that, for many enterprises, the incentives don’t line up with the users. At least wikipedia isn’t profit driven, but you can probably think of some things you’ve used that got more annoying with updates. Like google putting more ads up top, or any website that does a redesign that yields more ad space, worse navigation.
Someone posted the other day something like “A stupid person is someone who creates net negative gains. For example, they hurt themselves and others, and gain nothing from it.”
Why didn’t the democrats demand hand recounts when the election was initially called? It felt like they all just rolled over and accepted defeat.
I’m so tired of “AI”. I’m tired of people who don’t understand it expecting it to be magical and error free. I’m tired of grifters trying to sell it like snake oil. I’m tired of capitalist assholes drooling over the idea of firing all that pesky labor and replacing them with machines. (You can be twice as productive with AI! But you will neither get paid twice as much nor work half as many hours. I’ll keep all the gains.). I’m tired of the industrial scale theft that apologists want to give a pass to while individuals who torrent can still get in trouble, and libraries are chronically under funded.
It’s just all bad, and I’m so tired of feeling like so many people are just not getting it.
I hope wikipedia never adopts this stupid AI Summary project.
That’s a lot of people who saw a reporter get shot and went “I’m cool with that”.
I’m joking. Most of them probably aren’t paying enough attention to have seen that.
Its kind of pithy but like we still live in a capitalist hellscape, so have any resistances really been successful?
despite a decade of experience, I can’t even get to the first round of interviews.
I’ve had several places reject me without even a phone screen. My last job was the same role, the same tech stack, and I achieved the things they wrote about in the blurb. I just get back “we’re looking for someone more aligned with our needs”.
What needs?? I check every box you put on the post!
My friend thinks the jobs don’t exist, and they’re just posted so the company looks good. Or they’re some other fraud.
I think that happens, but also there’s incompetence in the funnel. Recruiters can’t read, ai sucks, blah blah blah.
I say this a lot but the conservative worldview really boils down to “my group is good and yours is bad”. That’s it. Thus when a conservative does something, it’s cool, because they’re good. When someone else does the same thing, it’s bad because they are bad.
You can’t argue with this. It’s like if you’re making a math proof and someone tells you it’s wrong because you’re wearing a green shirt. The color of your shirt has nothing to do with this geometry. The hypocrisy has nothing to do with their value system.
this is a question I often want to ask the pearl clutchers.
I think some of them don’t have an answer because they actually support the regime, and they’re going hard on “non violence” because they don’t want people to fight back
Some probably haven’t thought it through, and don’t have an answer.
Some probably have an answer that’s a variation of “too late”. You know, after they came for the unionists, the jews, the catholics, the mexicans, and there’s no one left to stand with them.
