I meant my remark in good humor. Looking at the ratio, I can see that it was taken very different to how I meant.
conditional_soup@lemm.eeto politics @lemmy.world•DNC will redo party elections for David Hogg and Malcolm Kenyatta’s posts after procedural error7·23 hours agoBless you, cousin, for your boomer posting, but I feel compelled to warn you. You keep this boomer posting up and you’re going to get stuck that way, like being sarcastic too much IRL.
conditional_soup@lemm.eeto News@lemmy.world•ICE agents chase after farmworkers as they flee fields during latest raid in Ventura County56·1 day agoWe’ve already seen the ghost of Christmas future here, it’s when Georgia implemented their live scan law and all the small and mid size farmers in Georgia lost their whole harvest (and subsequently, the farm) because they just couldn’t get Americans to come and pick for what they’re willing to pay. A lot of these farmers voted and stumped for Trump, believing that certainly the face eating leopard who eats everyone’s face and promises to eat everyone’s face wouldn’t eat their face. Get ready for a lot of “waaahhh, I didn’t think he would hurt meeeeeeee” from these guys as millions of pounds of tomatoes rot on the vine this summer.
Also, this just fucking sucks. I live in the central valley, ag is a really big deal here, and a lot of ag workers are really hard-working stand up folks. Nobody deserves ICE, but these folks especially don’t deserve it. I’d like to take this opportunity to wish ICE agents a very merry court date ASAP.

Greg Abbott says he'll deploy the National Guard across the state due to protests5·1 day agoIt’s totally wild to me how Joe Rogan and Jordan Peterson just dominated the podcast space. I was off listening to The Adventure Zone and Stuff You Missed In History Class and Revolutions and mfs kept asking me to listen to those dipshits. I tried one episode of Rogan and was like “this sucks, he’s a fucking idiot”, and they were like “yeah, I know, right? It’s great!”

I’ve started the process of moving my communities and stuff, but I plan on continuing to post on .ee until it goes down. Btw, is there an easy way to check which instances a Lemmy/piefed instance is defederated from?
I’ve applied for .zip; is .sdf a more general purpose instance?
Yeah, I gave volunteering a good, long think because I’m mostly sure I’ve got the right proficiencies for it, but my plate’s already overflowing as it is. I like lemm.ee, but when I sat down and considered my priorities IRL, I am legitimately sorry to say that it didn’t make the cut. I guess everyone else did that same math.

conditional_soup@lemm.eeto News@lemmy.world•Kamala Harris won the U.S elections: Bombshell report claims voting machines were tampered with before 202497·2 days agoSkimmed the article. There’s some stuff that stinks and is definitely worth investigating, but I wouldn’t call it a bombshell; there’s no hard evidence outlined in the article that the voting machines were altered to tamper with results. Tbh, I remain surprised that the Harris campaign backed down so quick and easy instead of running the usual week or two of spaghetti plate legal challenges to the results. They really just took them at face value, threw their hands in the air, and said “okay, guess we’re done here.”

Dr. King was NOT spoken of as a paragon of non-violence by conservative contemporaries. It was very common to refer to Dr. King’s protests as riots and in terms of inciting violence, even if the violence being invited, much as today, was police on protestor violence. If Dr. King had bowed to the cries that he was sparking violence, we never would have gone anywhere. There was a huge acceptance washing campaign by conservative America after the civil rights wins.

In the 2014 Maidan protests in Ukraine, protestors were getting cut down by police snipers during peaceful, unarmed marches. The police snipers were shooting people who were running out with stretchers to get the people who’d been shot. When they finally got sick of it and announced that they were going to come back tomorrow and do an armed march, the cops suddenly remembered that they all had dentist appointments in Belarus that day and skipped town. Nobody got shot during the armed march. See: https://youtu.be/yzNxLzFfR5w . So, it’s not so much that you have to use violence, but the state is a lot more likely to hesitate about kicking your shit in if they know you can be violent back and believe that you’re willing to do so. Ask any conservative what an acceptable protest is, and it’s likely to be something like “shouting into your closet”; as far as they’re concerned, peaceful marches ARE ALREADY violent if anyone notices them or they disrupt anything at all. Our cops don’t give a shit if you’re peaceful, they shoot reporters with rubber bullets and force people to grab billy clubs so they can beat the fuck out of them. We’re past that. It’s time to remind the state that there is alternative to peaceful protest if they really want to go that route.

Let 'em make Jefferson. I worked in the parts of the Sierra where the idea was popular (even though this county wasn’t even included in the proposal lmao), and it would make the poorest state in the union. It’d be even poorer than W. Virginia and Mississippi. Let’s see if maybe they like San Francisco and Sacramento a bit more once they realize who was paying for CalFire.
