  • They’re thick in the “ads bring us more money than making improvements” phase of corporate bullshit now.

Reddit still can’t make a better app than the ones made by solo developers who just did it as a passion project, but they’ve got enough money to throw around for a Superbowl ad spot and an entire ad campaign on YouTube.

  • All of the packaging needed for a lot of food at home as well, I feel like restaurants probably throw away less packaging comparatively with how much they get in bulk.

All of the plastic bottles for sauces, plastic containers for spices, meat and certain produce items that come packaged in plastic and styrofoam, plastic bags for bread and rice and pasta and junk food. Frozen items packaged in plastic in boxes that took energy to keep frozen before we spend energy to heat them within a minute or two, just because we’re too lazy to cook today.

Not to say that restaurants waste no packaging, but they’d use less given the volume of supplies they source, and likely prepare more in-house rather than buying pre-prepared.

I’d say restaurants are probably way more efficient in terms of waste and energy consumption than the average household. Cooking in bulk for a lot of people is better than a lot of people individually cooking for themselves.

  • Novel interactions and consistency remain a factor, though.

Xbox is essentially straight and standard, but Nintendo and Sony games often make use of controller features (gyroscope, touch, IR sensors) which, while not exactly widely utilized, allow for interesting methods of interacting with games that are not typically found on multiplatform releases that mostly support only features common between all platforms.

And with that in mind, you can safely make some of those novel interactions into core features of first party games when you can safely assume everyone is using the same input devices and has the same hardware.

This is basically a very minor nitpicky consideration, but as an example, gyroscopic aiming was born out of first-party games. If you’ve played a game with gyro aiming, it’s very cool and nice to have, but it will never become a standard part of most third-party games if only a subset of users have hardware capable of supporting it.

  • Some jobs (usually ones that are physically demanding/strenuous/require fitness) might have new hires undergo a health screening, though. Don’t want to be sending someone to do underwater welding who suffers from respiratory issues, for example.

But in terms of history, you’re right, absolutely not. If it’s something that might just be sensitive/embarrassing but isn’t part of the job description, it’s none of their business.

  • It’s also just very hypocritical. It has long been common for immigrants to the US to display the flags of their country of origin. There are still Irish and Italian flags here everywhere. Lots of flags used in the Asian-American community, some even for countries that no longer exist.

Mexico has just been so long maligned by modern white Americans that they don’t believe Mexican-Americans are entitled to the same degree of cultural pride afforded to everyone else.
