Fuck the optics. Wave the flag of our allies who are under attack in this nation, and refuse any suggestion that they are our enemies. Freedom of speech is patriotic as fuck.

Sen. Gary Peters, the top Democrat on the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, said last month that the use of the facility appears to cost $100,000 per day for each detainee.
During the peak of the war on terror, the U.S. held 780 people at the Guantanamo Bay facility. Pentagon officials were shocked by Trump’s order in January to house some 30,000 people there.
It physically and economically can’t be done. The most over-funded military in the world didn’t bother to supply the National Guard with food, water, or bedding in Los Angeles.
They’re sending these people to die.
nothing happened because I was reasonable and took everything slow.
That’s fair! It does all come down to taking things slow
(Edit - but squats without weights are definitely safer than deadlifts)

It is specifically a restriction of the powers of officials and a law against an abuse of office. It has nothing to do with the personal shield that the Supreme Court gave him. It’s one of the few cases where he would be officially liable for the crime, rather than personally.
Not that any of it matters right now, since these laws aren’t being enforced anyway.

They skipped over the Reichstag Fire completely, and simply pretended that non-emergencies were emergencies. “They’re eating the cats and dogs.”
The authority and power of the Executive Branch has increased by orders of magnitude in a matter of months simply by virtue of nobody standing in its way.
The nation is under attack. This isn’t a power grab, it’s an assault on freedom. Resist.
If nothing else lift heavy things off the ground like with deadlifts.
You got the spirit, but everyone - do NOT do this if you’re extremely out shape or don’t know proper form. Lift with your legs first and only.
Of all the possible exercises to start with, deadlifting is by far the most likely to permanently damage your back. If you need to start small, start with core and trunk exercises like crunches and squats.

It’s not misogyny to think other men would try to fuck your girlfriend.
Even if you can be correct in a given individual assessment within the context of your own life, you made a broad, unconditional statement where you intrinsically assumed the guy you’ve never met is correct in his assumptions about multiple friendships you have no knowledge of.
It’s not mysogyny to be wary of the intentions of other men. It’s mysogyny to assume all intergender friendships are exclusively sexual. For all you know, the boyfriend in the OP is just deeply insecure.
Edit - besides, it really doesn’t matter what other men “would try,” unless you have reason to believe the person in question is dangerous and will act without consent. If you think she will cheat on you, that’s an issue with your relationship, not her friendships with others.
but my sad, matured understanding of the world has taught me that nobody is in charge, we’re not a smart enough species to create that kind of functional hierarchy, it’s just consequence of systems we collectively refuse to change.
This is absolutely correct. It’s so tiring to hear people constantly misattribute the fundamental consequences of the machine itself to some mysterious cabal of operators.
But for the rest, eh. Always has been. Kids have always been censored by parents and authority figures. They find their way around it and evolve the language with each new generation.
For example, the youths have taken to the words “raw dog” in the funniest way possible. It’s some kind of reverse euphemism for “without the help of drugs” - the most offensive way possible to say something innocuous and wholesome.
Like, “I raw dogged my date last night” means “I decided to stay sober despite my insecurities”
I’m terrified of the impact the onset of LLM’s will have on our already failing education systems and willfully ignorant culture, but not because of the censors.

That’s not nuance, that’s literally the toxic masculinity the post is talking about.
Anyone can be friends. Assuming anything less is unnecessarily divisive.
The assumption the boyfriend is making - the same assumption you’re making - is just mysogyny.

I’m not fantasizing about anything. I’m not expecting them to actually do the right thing, I just hope they do. We’re in unprecedented territory here. This could turn into another South Korea, or it could be another Boston Massacre. Only time will tell.
But in the hypothetical context of marine vs cop as suggested in the comment I was responding to, marine wins.
Initiateofthevoid@lemmy.dbzer0.comto News@lemmy.world•Pentagon draws up rules on possible use of force by Marines deployed to LA protestsEnglish6·2 days agoThat’s the thing - infantry don’t do warning shots. When they pull the trigger, they’re only supposed to do so as an absolute last resort, with the express intent to stop the target. That’s what proper rules of engagement are.
But a Marine in bargain-bin decade-old hardware will absolutely walk straight up the barrel of a “less-lethal” loaded rifle and physically manhandle the cop in luxury fascist tech who thinks <40 hours of range time means they’re ready for combat.
Initiateofthevoid@lemmy.dbzer0.comto News@lemmy.world•Pentagon draws up rules on possible use of force by Marines deployed to LA protestsEnglish15·2 days agoNo posse comitatus, no obeying unconstitutional orders.
But the average service member stationed in the states is far better trained and (as insane as it sounds) less trigger happy than the paramilitary LAPD have proven to be.
If they follow the actual military rules of engagement, they’ll be doing less damage than the police already are.
I’m not holding my breath, but I hope our military is as patriotic as the South Koreans were when martial law was declared last year.

… How exactly do you imagine this works? How do you accept food that you can’t put anywhere? Do you take it, and put it outside, so it can spoil faster?
If you put it out on the street in an urban area, it would be infested by rats within the hour, which would literally make them more dangerous than starvation. Sickness from eating food tainted by rat droppings would leave you with far less calories than you started with.
Why are you like this? You’ve never actually been broke, or you wouldn’t joke about this shit, and you certainly wouldn’t downplay the logistics of impoverished living.
So, seriously, why? Just having fun?
Word got out that we were loading up my pickup with food and taking it to the homeless camps. I did get a number of them to start coming to the bank to get food. But it was easier when I could take stuff to them.
If OP could get the food to the people who absolutely want to eat the food, none of this would be a problem.
There is no shortage of people willing to eat cauliflower.
Initiateofthevoid@lemmy.dbzer0.comto Mildly Infuriating@lemmy.world•All this produce is going to spoil at the food bank where I volunteerEnglish2·2 days agothey had no place to store a case of tomatoes, or cauliflower.
It wasn’t homeless or starving people turning it away. It was other organizations that didn’t have the space to store it. Probably because their shelves were also full of food that they need to give away before it spoils.
If there were individuals turning it down, they probably already had enough food for the day (likely also from OP), and had no way of keeping a crate of vegetables for later because -
storing it is their main concern

Or let me guess, you think they should just bring it straight to the homeless who need it? Well:
Word got out that we were loading up my pickup with food and taking it to the homeless camps. I did get a number of them to start coming to the bank to get food. But it was easier when I could take stuff to them.
OP literally can’t bring the food to the starving. If they could, the food would all be eaten by the people that need it. There are people that absolutely will take and eat this food because they want and need it, but OP can’t deliver it to them. None of this is about a shortage of people willing to eat cauliflower.

The sun is not about to stand still or go out, nor the rivers to dry up because there was a mob in Boston on the 5th of March that attacked a party of soldiers.
- John Adams, Founding Father, Patriot, later President of the United States, describing the violence of the crowd on the day that lead to the Boston Massacre.
He used this argument to defend the British soldiers in court, because justice demands due process for everyone. Even the enemy.
The Boston Massacre was:
The day that laid the foundation of Independence.
- Also John Adams.
Initiateofthevoid@lemmy.dbzer0.comto Mildly Infuriating@lemmy.world•All this produce is going to spoil at the food bank where I volunteerEnglish7·2 days agoOP (this dickhead):
Have you considered giving it away to your neighbors?
OOP:
If we could simply give it to anyone we would not be in this situation
They can’t give it away. There are unfortunately rules. If they were caught doing so, they would no longer be giving it out to anyone. This is, again, why basic income would be better than food banks.
Not to mention the fact that plenty of people aren’t starving today, but will be starving in the next week or two, after this very perishable food is spoiled.
Why are you like this? Are you having fun mocking the impoverished?
