For me that ship sailed after Charlottesville. At some point cancer has to be recognized for what it is, and as we saw with ISIS, most of the world seems to find regulation of social media acceptable when it’s done to curb terrorist ideologies.

I’m so glad you chimed in. Everyone loves someone who starts a silly, pedantic argument for no good reason. That’s even more true on a thread where someone wants a serious response.
I’m all for making it exceedingly less convenient for people become radicalized, personally. Age verification isn’t a magic bullet, but still very much worth doing.
Not normal, just uhhh… maybe common.
I was trying to think of a way to put it, but that’s a good sentence in this context for sure.
Also, yes, blood relation does not mean you have to put up with some asshole’s cruelty. Cut them out if you can.
Do it.
The world needs more social media regulation, not less.
Clearly.
I mean correct me if I am wrong sending in the National Guard/ Military and using force against civis breaking the constitution?
Depends on what the NG does.
They can be used as ‘protection’ which would mean a defensive role in the case of civilians engaging in violence. I think the Insurrection Act has to be invoked in order for NG troops to go on the offensive, but I only know what I’ve read online and am no expert.
What’s happening is that the other two branches of our government have (mostly) abdicated to the Executive branch; therefore, absent the lower courts who can’t act in real-time for the most part, Donald has carte blanche to do whatever he wants without any meaningful accountability.
Some court or another may intervene, but it can’t happen quickly enough to stop what ICE is doing right now.
Things are different when you’re raised in it.
Christianity and the Democratic Party.
Someone needs to tell this dumb motherfucker that he has control of Congress. Also really want to see a member of the media ask him if he knows what supersonic flight is.
Leave it to the New York Times, the “paper of record”, to take these important initial steps to legitimize the world’s most horrid human rights abuses.
Is it okay to make money off prisons and concentration camps?
No.
Inadvertently walked in on two teachers discussing their affair in junior high school.
My choir teacher, at the time a young woman in her twenties, was fucking a history teacher in his 40’s who was married to another teacher at the same school. I walked into the room where all the sheet music was stored to get something and they were talking, at which point he immediately turned to me and snarled: “Do you mind?!” I didn’t even hear what they were saying, but in hindsight, the circumstances make it obvious.
I was just a teenager and not expecting this weird moment, was stunned and just backed out of the room. I didn’t put it all together until later because I couldn’t imagine a young woman screwing what I saw as an old man at the time.
I got called in to the office later that day and she’d made an allegation that I’d harassed her and I was going to be suspended, but really, she and history teacher concocted this to cover for themselves in case it got out.
It was an important early lesson in distrusting authority.
What comes to mind to me are two things:
The absurdity of religion. I was raised Christian but always asked tough questions, to which people responded with the various platitudes religious people love to use. (The most popular being “God works in mysterious ways.”) I missed out on a lot of sexual experience and mistreated a lot of people because I was taught to behave in certain ways, and I regret it deeply.
How much I was lied to or information omitted by my educators growing up, particularly on history. I read history books for fun, and have learned over time about many things that were deliberately withheld from my education, like the Tulsa Massacre and the Battle of Blair Mountain, or stories of the Black Panthers’ community building work, or the wholesale exploitation and destruction of indigenous people to make handful of people rich via the reservation system and Indian Ring.
Nice straw man.
