VW will launch the autonomous ID. Buzz AD in 2026. With that, it's hoping to overtake Tesla in the driverless taxi race. Other competitors are also getting involved in this billion-dollar market.
Had some training with the guys that develop the driver assist tech for VW and many more. It was at about that time when Tesla launched the autopilot. They said they would be terrified and couldn’t live with their conscience launching it in that state / only using cameras.
This is to say that regulations and some sort of regard for ethics means that whatever gets put out by these companies will be a step above in Reliability and safety.

I expect nothing less, this has been true for many other things when comparing eu things to us things, but this argument would also mean nokia would eventually release an iPhone killer and we all know that didn’t happen either. Don’t get me wrong I’d really like vw to beat tesla, but they haven’t got anything riding on public roads yet afaik
Didn’t know they got to that point already, but I think VW would want it’s own system and not license it from BMW. We’ll have to wait and see how fast they can realise their goals.

The bmw 7 series has advanced self driving features where you are allowed to take your hands off the steering wheel in some circumstances

https://www.bmwgroup.com/en/innovation/automated-driving.html this is the release from them. I believe the s class Mercedes has something similar
Thanks, though Mercedes might be less likely to share their tech considering they have their own vans (and trucks too).
