For this Wednesday Super Slop Night, first up is Bingo: The King of the Mornings (2017), a Brazilian black comedy/psychological thriller about a struggling porn/soap-opera actor in 1980s Brazil who finds success as the clown host of a children’s show. Things spiral out of control from there as he goes deeper and deeper into character, faces the vacuity of his true self, and snorts a lot of cocaine. Reviews call it “the Brazilian Joker (2019)”. Sounds pretty neat. It is the most popular work to date of director Daniel Rezende, and one of the most popular Brazilian films on Letterboxd.

Next is Nine to Five (1980), an office-themed farce about three women (Jane Fonda, Lily Tomlin, and Dolly Parton) who team up to take revenge against their disgusting, misogynistic boss. Hilarity ensues as their diabolical schemes play out and they take control of the workplace for themselves. What’s this? A Hollywood film about class solidarity? Okay, we’ll check this out. This was the #2 movie at the domestic box office in 1980, behind only The Empire Strikes Back (1980). Great reviews, too; it is the best-known and best-regarded work of director Colin Higgins.

We’ll start at 8PM EST on Blorptube, right here:
